Plate map maker
Paint the layout by group, export it, and tape it to the bench.
Pick a group, then click or drag across the wells it covers. Add groups for samples, controls, blanks, and standards, rename them, and export the finished layout. Everything runs on this page: your layout is never uploaded anywhere. Switch between 96 and 384 at the top of the tool.
Click or drag across wells to paint them with the selected group.
How labs use it
Mark fixed positions first: blanks, standards, and controls in the same wells every run, so a strange result is comparable across plates. Then paint sample groups in blocks that match how the multichannel pipette actually moves, column by column, so the map and the loading order agree.
Export formats
The Excel download carries two sheets, the plate map grid and the sample list, matching the downloadable templates on this site. The CSV downloads give the same data for a LIMS or an analysis script, and Print produces a clean one page map for the bench binder.

Common questions
Is my plate layout uploaded or saved anywhere?
No. The maker runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, and closing the page discards the layout, so export before you close it.
Can I map a 384 well plate here too?
Yes. The format switch at the top of the tool rebuilds the grid as 16 by 24. Switching formats clears the current plate, so export first if you need the layout you have.
Does it work on a phone or tablet?
It works, and the grid scrolls sideways on small screens. A desktop or laptop is more comfortable for a full 384 layout.
